California motion-picture minors overtime (WO 12 § 3(E))
Motion-picture minors under IWC Wage Order 12 § 3(E) / 8 CCR § 11120. 1.5× for ALL hours on the sixth consecutive workday — even a short Saturday after five short weekdays. Not LC 510 (no 6th-day premium). Not extra-player § 3(D). Emancipated 16/17 → adult bands.
How Wage Order 12 § 3(E) pays
Wage Order 12 covers the motion picture industry. For minors (under 18), § 3(E) requires one and one-half times the minor's regular rate for all hours worked on the sixth consecutive workday. That is the unique pay line: a three-hour Saturday after five three-hour weekdays is all overtime here, and all straight time under Labor Code § 510.
Exception: minors 16 and 17 who are not required by law to attend school and may therefore be employed for the same hours as an adult follow subsections (A)–(D) instead — ordinary adult WO 12 / LC 510 bands, with no sixth-day all-hours premium. Toggle that on this page to compare.
Other workdays still take the general California LC 510 daily 8/12 and seventh-day floor; weekly overtime after 40 credits daily and sixth-day premiums so they do not compound. Child-labor hour caps (LC 1308.7 / 1391) and work permits still apply — labeled, not gated.
5×3h + Sat 3h @ $20 → 15 regular + 3 OT = $390 (LC 510 same punches = $360 all regular).
5×4h + Sat 8h @ $20 → 20 regular + 8 OT = $640 (LC 510 = $560).
One 12h day (day 1) @ $20 → 8 + 4 OT = $280 (extra-player same day = $300 with 2× after 10).
6×8h @ $20 → 40 regular + 8 OT = $1,040 (Saturday OT covers weekly 40; no extra weekly).
Emancipated 16/17 on 5×3h + Sat 3h → $360 all regular (adult bands).

FAQ
What is the WO 12 minors sixth-day overtime rule?
Wage Order 12 § 3(E) requires one and one-half times a minor's regular rate for ALL hours worked on the sixth consecutive workday. A minor who works three hours Monday through Friday and three hours Saturday gets 1.5× for the entire Saturday — Labor Code § 510 would pay all those hours as straight time.
Do 16- and 17-year-olds always get the sixth-day premium?
No. Minors 16 and 17 who are not required by law to attend school and may be employed for the same hours as an adult follow subsections (A)–(D) instead — the adult WO 12 / LC 510 bands, with no sixth-day all-hours premium.
How is this different from Labor Code § 510?
LC 510 has daily overtime after 8, double time after 12, and a seventh-day premium — but no sixth consecutive workday all-hours premium. Five 3-hour days plus a 3-hour Saturday is $360 at $20 under LC 510 and $390 here.
Is this the same as the extra-player calculator?
No. Extra players use WO 12 § 3(D) (1.5× for the 9th and 10th hours, 2× after 10 in tenths). This page is § 3(E) for minors' sixth consecutive workday. Use /california-extra-player-overtime/ for extras.
Does weekly overtime compound with the sixth-day premium?
No. Daily and sixth-day premiums are credited toward weekly overtime after 40 so the same hour is not paid twice. Six 8-hour days yield 40 regular + 8 OT from Saturday with no extra weekly premium.
